Pre BIT class

I spent last week in Colorado taking a one week class. I needed to take this class before I take the Brain Integration class in July. This was a great class. We learned how to balance allergies, emotions, pain, neurotransmitters and several other things. I now need to do 60 hours of case studies that will all prepare me for the two week class in July. This work is truly amazing. I still don't understand how it all works and I don't really need to in order to see the great results from it. I am so excited to be able to share this with others.

Clear Creek

So all of the 6th graders went on an overnight camp. We saw Alyx's teacher at the store after they returned and she had to stop us to tell us how well Alyx did at camp. She said that she was VERY hyper and after she told her to calm down Alyx was a lot better. What is astonding is that ALyx had apparently become the leader. During the games they played Alyx took over and became the leader. One of the other teachers even commented "What's up with her? She never does this."
How amazing is that! Alyx has an older sister who always play the boss leader at home and Alyx never really has. This is the first time that she has taken charge.

Alyx usually has a lot of anxiety when she is away from home. Even when she spends the night at Grandma's house. This is the first time when she didn't. I dropped her off at school, kissed her and said goodbye and off she went. No tears and no drama. It was amazing.

It truly is amazing to see these changes in her.

Parent Teacher Conferences

So we had parent conferences with Alyx's teacher. She raved about how good she is doing. She is more confident. She has been reading OUT LOUD in front of the class, which is something she has never done. She doesn't like to even read out loud at home with me. SHe is getting 2 B's and one A. and is very proud of herself. I asked her teacher if she has noticed a difference in Alyx and she said "Absolutely!" She is very pleased with these results. Mark and I are also very pleased with Alyx and the hard work she is doing at school.

Grades

January 19, 2011

I looked Alyx's grades up on the school website. She is getting a B in Math, B in Language Arts and an A in Science. We are so excited for her. She was also very excited to know that she is improving so much in so little amount of time. I am finally confident that she is going to be ready to start Junior High this Fall. We have parent/teacher conferences next week and I am looking forward to hearing from her teacher about her improvements. Usually I am dreading visiting with her teachers but I am very excited this time.

DRA Testing for reading

Alyx came home from school yesterday SUPER excited, talking a mile a minute. I got her to slow down and she told me that she passed her DRA testing. I was very excited too but then I said "What does that mean?" Its a reading test the teacher gives them individually that tests what grade level they are on. I still was confused on what this meant. So Mark and I decided to go in and talk to her teacher. We walked in and she said "Did Alyx tell you?" She was very excited too. She proceeded to explain to me what the DRA testing is. She said that at the beginning of the school year Alyx was tested and she totally bombed. Did a horrible job. When they tested her yesterday she flew through it. She didn't stumble or stutter. She read it smoothly and only had a few mistakes, which all the kids do. She is now reading on her 6th grade reading level at 105 words a minute. This is phenomenal. She was reading at a high 3rd to low 4th grade at probably about 50 words a minute. She has only been back in school for 4 days since the Christmas break and it has only been 3 weeks since her BIT. This is totally amazing. We were all very happy for Alyx and you could tell that she was very happy and proud of herself for doing such a great job.

She also has gotten a 100% on a math test and has been able to finish the math worksheets, which her teacher said she never has been able to finish. Her math grade has gone from a C to a B- in one week. That is just great!!!

January 4, 2011

I spoke with Alyx's teacher today. She said yesterday that Alyx finished her math worksheet and that she was so excited she ran up and told her teacher that she had finished it. Her teacher told me that Alyx rarely finishes her math sheets so they were both very excited. Conferences are at the end of the month so I am really looking forward to what her teacher has to say after a month and how her grades have improved.

January 3, 2011

For family scripture reading Alyx read during her turn and did a great job. Usually she would refuse to read and then if she did she would stumble through the whole verse. That was yesterday. Today she was back to refusing to read. Dr. Pratt said that now the pathways in her brain are open but that she has to try and do the reading if she is going to improve. I reminded Alyx of that today also. She started back in school today so I am very interested in what her teacher has to say in a few weeks at conference.

When I tucked Alyx in bed last night I was able to actually tuck the covers around her. If you read my last post I talked about how Alyx is really jumpy when she falls asleep and when I tuck her in or even go into her room she will startle really easy and then start to cry. Last night I tried to make some noise and she slept right through it. It was nice to be ablle to tuck her into to bed.
